Excuses, Excuses, Excuses

Here is my rant for the day, or maybe the month, lol. I hate it when I have to try to figure out who is lying to me and who isn't. I do the payroll for a small (but growing) company. I have heard all manner of excuses why people need their checks early. I have gotten to where I just don't believe any of them. I decided that I should make a list of the one's that I've gotten that seem quite outlandish to me or just not a good reason. And for fun I added the responses that I want to give them or a reason that they are outlandish.

I'm terrible at money management myself but some people have no pride and are even worse at managing their money. I also understand that emergencies do come up and people get into a bind.

1) I'm going to go to jail if I don't get my fines paid today.
This one wouldn't seem so outlandish if it weren't for the number of times I've heard it from the same people. How can the same people have so many fines? Did they not learn what they did wrong the first time? This is by far the #1 reason that people tell me that they need their checks early. Makes you wonder exactly what kind of people we are hiring.

2) My aunt (or other relative) died.
Again this one isn't so outlandish except for the number of times it happens to certain employees. Generally it happens right after they have been told that they are not getting any more checks early.

3) I overspent this weekend.
Big deal, I've done that many times. When that happens, I just tighten my belt during the week until I get my next paycheck.

4) I have a disconnect notice on my light bill.
This happens to the same people every month. There is a saying that goes something like this "Failure to plan on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." I've gotten disconnect notices before. I either pay them when I get them or call the electric company and ask for an extension, which usually will go to the next pay period at least.

5) My car (or house) note is due.
You didn't know when your note was due? Is it not due at the same time every month? Did you not know last week that your note was going to be due?

6) I don't feel like coming to get my check on payday.
I'm not talking about someone who is ill, I'm talking about someone who it lazy. I would classify this as the stupidest excuse and I get it quite a bit. I don't feel like doing a lot of things, but if I need my money, I will feel like getting my paycheck. If you don't feel like coming to get your check on payday, you can wait until the office is back open to get it.
